In Diablo 4, choosing the right build can be tricky, especially since powerful Legendary items can drastically alter your playstyle. Like previous Diablo games, Diablo 4 provides a way for players to reset their builds and reallocate their skill points. However, the respec mechanics have evolved throughout the series. For instance, Diablo 2 only allowed three respecs per character—one per difficulty level—while Diablo 3 let players change their builds freely without any cost. Diablo 4 strikes a balance between these systems, offering flexibility but with some expenses attached.

How to Respec Skills in Diablo 4

In Diablo 4, players can easily respec their skill points directly from the skill menu without needing to visit a specific NPC or return to a safe zone. To access the skills menu, open your inventory and select the "ABILITIES" tab. This will show your current skills and passives.

To begin the respeccing process, hold down the designated button to enter Respec Mode. Here, you can either reset all skill points at once or make more targeted adjustments by refunding points from individual skills.

If you opt to refund all points, you’ll start with a clean slate, allowing you to redistribute points starting from the Basic Skills section. However, if you only need minor tweaks, simply select the skill you'd like to change and either right-click on PC or use the console input to remove a point. Just remember that some skills may be prerequisites for others, so be mindful of how your changes affect the overall build.

When refunding individual skill points, it’s often helpful to work from the bottom of the skill tree up. Don’t forget to adjust any secondary modifiers or enhancements tied to your abilities.

How to Respec Paragon Points in Diablo 4

Respeccing Paragon Points in Diablo 4 follows a similar process to respec’ing skills. Once you hit max level, you’ll continue to earn Paragon Points, which can be spent on one of five Paragon Boards. With a maximum of 300 points to allocate, these boards contain powerful Legendary and Rare nodes, as well as Glyph sockets critical to fine-tuning your endgame build.

If you find yourself wanting to change your Paragon setup, open the Paragon Board via the Skills menu. From there, hover over the specific Paragon node you’d like to refund and press the refund button, or you can choose to refund all Paragon Points at once.

As with skills, you cannot refund a Paragon Point if it has other points that depend on it, so you’ll need to work your way inward when adjusting your Paragon Board. If you decide to refund everything, be prepared to spend a significant amount of gold, but doing so allows you to completely rebuild your Paragon strategy from scratch.

Respec Gold Costs in Diablo 4

While Diablo 4 makes respeccing fairly straightforward, it does come at a cost. Up until level 10, you can freely refund and reassign skill points as you experiment with your class. However, once you pass level 10, respeccing will start to require gold.

At lower levels, the cost is minimal. For instance, players in the level 10–20 range will barely notice the impact on their gold reserves, with costs starting around 78 gold per point at level 23. However, as you progress and spend more points on your skill tree, the price increases significantly. By the time you reach the maximum level, the cost to refund just one point can run into the thousands, and fully respeccing both skills and Paragon Points can cost hundreds of thousands of gold.

This increasing cost applies not only to skill points earned through leveling but also to those gained from quests, Renown, and Paragon Points. While players have plenty of time to experiment with different builds, it’s wise to settle on a final build as you near the endgame to avoid these hefty respeccing costs.

Whether you’re adjusting your skills or reworking your Paragon Points, respeccing in Diablo 4 offers flexibility, but it’s important to plan ahead to manage the gold costs, especially as you approach the endgame.
