For a free-to-play action-RPG, that’s a seriously bold entrance — but does the game deliver on its promise of a rich, living Wuxia universe? The short answer: yes — with caveats!

Set during the tumultuous 10th-century Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period in China, Where Winds Meet invites you into a sprawling, historically inspired world. With more than 20 distinct regions — from imperial capitals to hidden caves and eerie ghost markets — the game’s geography feels both large and culturally textured.
One of the game’s marquee features is its 10,000+ NPCs, each with their own schedule, personality, and the potential to change their relationship with the player depending on your actions. This isn’t just background filler: in some cases, how you treat NPCs can turn them into allies — or enemies. The scale is genuinely ambitious.

Combat-wise, the game lets you master over 40 Mystic Arts and dozens of weapons — swords, umbrellas, spears, fans — giving you a lot of flexibility to build a style that suits you. On top of that, you can play alone, roam solo, or team up with up to four friends in co-op.
Crucially, NetEase emphasizes that there is no “pay-to-win” mechanic — purchases are cosmetic only. They want to create a fair field where progression depends on effort, choice, and skill, not just money.
