PowerWash Simulator is set to expand its universe with a newly announced paid DLC, bringing beloved locations from the Shrek movies into the game. Players will soon be able to clean up iconic settings like Shrek’s famous swamp home. Developed by FuturLab and powered by Unity, PowerWash Simulator has a history of exciting crossovers, having previously teamed up with franchises like Back to the Future, Warhammer 40,000, and most recently, Alice in Wonderland.
Launched in July 2022, PowerWash Simulator offers players the chance to run their own power washing business in a first-person simulation. Since its release, the game, published by Square Enix's indie division, has enjoyed a steady flow of themed expansions. Notable among these was the Final Fantasy 7 DLC, which arrived in March of last year. Now, FuturLab has announced the next crossover for this unique simulator, taking fans to the magical world of Shrek.
The Shrek Special Pack was revealed during Nintendo's August 27 Direct presentation, which also featured a sneak peek at a new SpongeBob SquarePants game centered on Patrick Star. This new DLC will introduce five maps inspired by DreamWorks Animation’s popular Shrek series, including Shrek’s Swamp. Additionally, players can look forward to earning new achievements, as shared on the game's official Twitter account.
Based on a children’s picture book by American cartoonist William Steig, Shrek has become one of DreamWorks Animation’s most successful franchises. Shrek 2, released in 2004, remains one of the highest-grossing films of all time, having earned over $928 million worldwide.
While a specific release date for the Shrek Special Pack hasn’t been confirmed, the expansion’s trailer hints it will be available “in the not too far, far away future.” Pricing details are also yet to be announced, but similar past DLCs for Alice in Wonderland, Back to the Future, and Warhammer 40,000 were each priced at $7.99. FuturLab has a track record of offering free content as well, such as the Tomb Raider DLC.
In August, PowerWash Simulator received two free updates: Muckingham Files - Part 4 and Cruise Ship Sun Deck - Summer 2024. The former added two new jobs, while the latter, part of the Seasonal Specials series, introduced two new maps along with a summer-themed suit, gloves, and power washer skin. PowerWash Simulator continues to impress, boasting an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam from over 40,700 player reviews.
