A Stardew Valley player recently shared a touching story about playing the game with their 76-year-old mother, showcasing their farm after five in-game years. Although her progress might not be as rapid as that of other players, the community has been charmed by her unique and leisurely approach to the game.
While console players are still awaiting the latest update, Stardew Valley Update 1.6 has already drawn many PC players back to this beloved farming simulator since its release in March. Created by solo developer ConcernedApe, Stardew Valley has captivated a broad audience with its simple graphics and intuitive controls, making it a relaxing and accessible game for players of all ages.
Reddit user doorkeytv shared images of their mother’s farm, which is modestly developed, featuring only a house and a small coop, along with an unfinished greenhouse. Despite the limited number of structures, the farm is neatly organized. Trees are grouped by type, with many adorned with tappers, while crop fields are equipped with sprinklers.
A line of beehives and kegs marks the eastern boundary of the farm. The highlight, however, is a collection of 21 Preserve Jars next to the house, as the Redditor mentioned their mother’s favorite activity is making various kinds of jelly and advising on the best fruits to use.
The Stardew Valley community has fallen in love with this player's laid-back approach to the game. Some curious commenters questioned what she had been doing over the five in-game years to have made such little progress. In response, doorkeytv explained that it’s her first time using a mouse and keyboard, and it took her the entire first year just to clear the land.
However, she’s recently saved up enough for the first house upgrade and is eager to start cooking. While she hasn’t ventured past Level 10 in the mines yet, she’s improving at fighting slimes and might be focusing on completing the Community Center bundles, as she is not a fan of the JoJa Corporation.
Beyond farming and mining, this player enjoys engaging with the residents of Pelican Town, often sharing gossip with her child. She has a soft spot for Linus, admires his way of life, and is disappointed that Demetrius isn’t a marriage candidate. Using her maternal influence, she ensured her child married Leah in their game. One of her biggest surprises was discovering the scandal of Mayor Lewis’s Purple Shorts in Marnie’s bedroom.
This heartwarming story of a 76-year-old’s adventures in Stardew Valley serves as a reminder of the game’s universal appeal, allowing players of all ages to create and enjoy their own unique farming experiences.
