Konami Announces Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2, but There’s a Twist

Konami has officially confirmed the development of Metal Gear Solid Master Collection: Volume 2. However, the company has hinted that fans may have to wait a bit longer before they can dive into the next installment of this iconic series.

As October 24 approaches, marking the first anniversary of the original Metal Gear Solid remasters on PC and consoles, speculation about Volume 2 has intensified. Rumors about this sequel have been circulating even before the release of the first bundle.

Challenges Ahead for MGS Master Collection: Volume 2

Konami has revealed that Volume 2 is in the works, as confirmed by series producer Noriaki Okamura during the latest episode of the Metal Gear Production Hotline web series (reported by TheGamer). However, the project is still in its early stages. Unlike Volume 1, which benefited from pre-existing HD ports of MGS2 and MGS3: Snake Eater, Konami is grappling with the lack of a clear starting point for Volume 2.

A Delay in Updates

The company is currently evaluating how best to approach the collection, especially given that the games leading up to Phantom Pain have not been modernized. Okamura mentioned that it will take "a little while" before Konami can provide further details on the project.

Konami is also mindful of the issues faced during the launch of Volume 1. Okamura acknowledged the rough start and expressed concerns about avoiding similar problems with Volume 2. The first volume experienced several challenges, including bugged analog controls and performance issues, which required multiple updates over five months to address. The most recent update, version 1.5.0, was released in mid-March 2024, with more fixes anticipated.

What to Expect in Volume 2

Fans are eagerly awaiting Volume 2 for its potential to bring MGS4: Guns of the Patriots out of the PS3 era, along with the inclusion of MGS: Portable Ops and Peace Walker. Despite the hurdles, anticipation for Volume 2 remains high as Konami continues to refine their approach to this beloved series.
