Honour Mode in Baldur's Gate 3 is infamous for its extreme difficulty. With just one save file, any death is final, and enemies are tougher than in Tactician Mode. To make matters worse, bosses possess unique Legendary Actions, raising the challenge even further. But sometimes, the game gets harder in unexpected ways.

For months, a bug has been plaguing Baldur’s Gate 3 players during the Mindflayer Colony boss fight in Act 2, where Ketheric Thorm can duplicate himself. Although this glitch is rare, it’s a nightmare for those pursuing the coveted golden die in Honour Mode.

One player shared their ordeal on Reddit, describing their disastrous encounter with not one, but two Ketheric Thorms. "Everything was going smoothly — mindflayer defeated in the first round, Ketheric was nearly down," the player explained. "Then, just before his final moment when Myrkul is supposed to appear, ANOTHER KETHERIC SPAWNS at full health! As if Honour Mode wasn’t hard enough already."

"Now There Are Two of Them!"

Facing two Ketheric Thorms proved too much for the player, and their Honour Mode run was cut short in a highly unfair twist. Unfortunately, the nightmare didn’t end there, as they encountered the bug a second time.

Fortunately, they discovered a solution. If you run into this glitch, you can force quit and reload the game, which prevents a second Ketheric from spawning, even in Honour Mode. Thank the Absolute for small mercies! With this workaround, the player eventually managed to complete their Honour Mode run successfully.

According to the poster, they weren’t using any mods, suggesting that the issue stems from the base game itself.

A Glitch With a Silver Lining

There is a strange upside to this bug, though. If you’re able to defeat both Ketheric Thorms, you’ll receive two sets of his armour. This means you and your favorite companion can roam the Sword Coast as matching Apostles of Myrkul. But beware, defeating two Ketherics is no easy task!
