Cal Kestis and the crew of the Stinger Mantis have seen their share of excitement since their rescue by Cere Junda and Greez Dritus on Bracca in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. However, the most relentless pursuers of Cal and his team have been the Haxion Brood, a gang of bounty hunters that first introduced themselves when Cal and BD-1 were captured and forced to battle in the Ordo Eris arena, overseen by Sorc Tormo.
Bounty hunters have injected plenty of tension and high stakes into the Star Wars Jedi narrative. The question now is whether to bring back the Haxion Brood for a third time or introduce a new set of diverse mercenaries. With Cal possibly stepping into the role of a bounty hunter himself, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor positions the Haxion Brood as a more pronounced threat. This time, however, the tables are turned: Cal takes the offensive, with the hunters becoming the hunted, hinting at a new direction for his character in future installments.
Star Wars: Bounty Hunter offers players optional "dead or alive" contracts, adding depth to gameplay, particularly in early levels like Coruscant, where enemies are less numerous, allowing players to scan NPCs using Jango Fett’s slow-motion visor.
As the game progresses, bounty hunting becomes increasingly challenging, with overwhelming waves of enemies that make completing contracts more difficult. Yet, this feature elevates the experience beyond a basic arcade shooter. Successfully turning in bounties alive requires players to mark targets, incapacitate them with Jango’s whipcord, and then manage to interact with them amid a chaotic battlefield—a daunting task.
In the later stages, players must clear out all other enemies first, leaving the bounty target for last, which limits options. However, these mechanics could be great additions for the next Star Wars Jedi game, especially if Cal officially embraces the bounty hunter role, having already taken out targets for the scheming Caij Vanda in Survivor.
Currently, players are motivated to pursue bounties for various rewards, including abilities related to the blaster stance and cosmetics for BD-1. A sequel could offer even greater incentives for capturing targets alive, enhancing the gameplay experience.
The Haxion Brood remains a persistent threat, and with Cal having taken down many of their members, it would be logical for Sorc Tormo to intensify his manhunt in a third installment. With Cal’s newfound interest in bounty hunting, he could independently pursue targets, even without Caij’s tips on Brood locations.
Survivor hinted at Cal possibly retiring his lightsaber and leaving the fight behind. Yet, as the Haxion Brood continues to hunt him and the Stinger Mantis crew, Cal may find it hard to escape the bounty hunting life until he resolves this ongoing conflict. It would be disappointing for this subplot to be dropped in a third Star Wars Jedi game without a meaningful resolution.
