A creative player in Stardew Valley has unveiled an intriguing farm design that simplifies the process of watering crops for an entire season. While there are some prerequisites to access this method, many players may find it worthwhile.
In Stardew Valley, the game initially requires players to manually water each crop on their farm. As players progress and invest in upgrades, they can acquire better watering cans that cover more ground and sprinklers that automatically water nearby tiles. However, this new method eliminates the need for maintenance and doesn’t take up valuable space that would otherwise be needed for sprinklers.
A Reddit user named ddearco showcased a unique and densely packed farm layout, filling nearly every available tile with crops. Other players speculated about how long it would take to water them all, suggesting that frequent visits to the spa or the use of energy boosters might be necessary to manage such a vast farm. However, the creator and several others revealed that the key to easily watering the entire farm lies in using Deluxe Retaining Soil and a Rain Totem.
Deluxe Retaining Soil is a valuable resource for any farmer; once placed on a crop tile and watered, it retains moisture for the entire season or until the crop is ready to be harvested, whichever comes first. Meanwhile, a Rain Totem ensures that the next day will be rainy in Stardew Valley. By strategically timing these two elements, players can lay down the Deluxe Retaining Soil during a rainy day, allowing it to absorb water automatically without any manual effort. This approach can save considerable time and streamline farm planning, as it removes the need to consider sprinkler placement.
However, there are a few prerequisites to make this method work. First, players must purchase the Deluxe Retaining Soil recipe from the Island Trader on Ginger Island and then craft it themselves. Fortunately, the recipe does not require any particularly rare items, although players should gather a decent amount of stone, fiber, and clay before attempting this strategy. Additionally, players need to have level 9 in foraging to craft the Rain Totem, though some totems may drop from the Skull Cavern. While this method may not be ideal for beginners, more experienced players looking to maximize their time off the farm should definitely consider giving it a try.
