Level-5 has announced a significant postponement for its highly anticipated RPG detective game, Decapolice, now slated for a 2026 release. Initially set to launch in 2023 and then moved to 2024, fans are taken aback by this latest announcement, which has cast uncertainty over the game’s future.
Set in a futuristic cyber world, Decapolice offers a detective experience akin to popular titles such as Danganronpa and Master Detective Archives. Players will step into the shoes of a young detective tasked with unraveling a series of intriguing crimes. Despite the initial excitement surrounding its reveal in 2023, the recent delay has raised concerns among fans about what lies ahead for Decapolice.
According to a report by Gematsu, Level-5’s president and CEO, Akihiro Hino, confirmed that the game’s launch has been pushed to 2026. Hino emphasized that the development team is working diligently to enhance both the visuals and the overall content of the game, necessitating additional time for completion.
Originally intended for PlayStation and Nintendo consoles, Decapolice will now also be available on PC. While it remains uncertain if the addition of the PC port has influenced the delay, speculation has emerged regarding potential impacts on the planned platform launches. With the recent announcement of the PS5 Pro, many fans wonder if Decapolice will still be released for the PS4, prompting players to stay tuned for updates from Level-5.
Fans have started to speculate on the reasons behind the delay, with some attributing it to the new PC version, while others are concerned that the anime tied to the game is taking longer to produce than expected. There are also worries that Level-5 may be overextending itself with several projects in development simultaneously, including Professor Layton and The New World of Steam and multiple entries in the Inazuma Eleven series. Although there has been no official confirmation that these overlapping projects have hindered development, fans are understandably anxious that Decapolice may not be the only title facing delays.
In recent months, many video game releases have encountered similar setbacks, ranging from brief delays to extensive postponements like that of Decapolice. As players await the detective RPG's arrival in 2026, fans are encouraged to keep an eye out for further updates on Decapolice and other upcoming titles from Level-5.
