Minecraft’s Bedrock Edition has received a series of notable upgrades in the 1.21.30 patch, introducing bug fixes, feature parity with Java Edition, and more. One subtle yet welcome change is that villagers no longer make idle noises when asleep in their beds at night, making it easier to tell when these mobs are resting.
Additionally, the "Stone Mason" profession has been renamed simply to "Mason" to match the naming convention of Minecraft Java Edition. Foxes in the Bedrock version have also seen their health reduced from 10 hearts to 5, bringing them in line with their Java counterparts. Perhaps the most exciting addition is an experimental feature aimed at improving inventory management—bundles.
As Minecraft Live 2024 approaches, Mojang has revealed that the PlayStation version of Minecraft will lose a unique feature in 2025, adding another intriguing development to the game’s future.
Players who start a new world in Minecraft can now enable the bundle experiment to access this new feature in-game. It’s important to note that bundles are still in their beta phase, so they’re only available in freshly created worlds with the experiment turned on—they won’t appear in existing Survival, Creative, or Realm worlds just yet. Once the bundle experiment is activated, players can craft a bundle using one piece of string and one piece of leather, offering a new way to manage inventory space.
Bundles allow players to store multiple different items within a single inventory slot. For example, a bundle could hold 32 gold ingots, 12 arrows, 10 sticks, 6 cooked steaks, and 4 torches all together. However, bundles cannot be stacked on top of each other once filled. Players can easily open the bundle to remove specific items, with the bundle icon displaying the selected item poking out for easy access. For faster item management, players holding bundles can empty the entire contents onto the ground in one go.
As bundles are still in their experimental phase, players may encounter a few bugs while using them. For instance, while bundles can store multiple smaller items, single large items like weapons or armor will take up the entire space on their own. On touch devices, there is a glitch where the wrong item icon may briefly appear when moving items in or out of bundles. Additionally, players may notice that bundles lose their contents if placed in decorated pots, given to allays, or moved through hoppers and droppers.
Traditionally, Minecraft’s inventory system has only allowed players to stack identical items, like 64 wooden blocks or 16 eggs. While simple, this system often leads to overcrowded inventories, especially during mining or exploration. Players frequently have to return to their base or abandon items to make room for more valuable resources. Bundles were initially tested in 2020 with Java Snapshot 20w45a, but they only reappeared in 2024 as an experimental feature. Once fully implemented, bundles could revolutionize inventory management in Minecraft.
With bundles primarily benefiting resource blocks rather than tools and weapons, players could mine more efficiently. Instead of lugging around multiple stacks of cobblestone or deepslate, bundles would allow players to carry a few stone blocks and reserve more inventory space for precious metals, ores, and minerals. This feature could also help players better prepare for dangerous situations by packing bundles with essentials like honey bottles, milk buckets, and various types of food. These changes would enable players to stay out in the mines for longer stretches without frequent trips back to base.
Bundles were first introduced during Minecraft Live 2020, alongside the glow squid, which won that year’s Mob Vote. As Minecraft continues to evolve, bundles have the potential to become an essential tool for players everywhere.
