In The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, players will encounter a total of 50 side quests, most of which are fairly simple or involve defeating bosses. However, quests like "The Flames of Fortune" can be a bit tricky, especially if Zelda isn't quick enough. This quest takes place in the Eldin Volcano region and requires the use of Tri's Grab Ability to complete. Before starting this mission, you must first clear the Eldin Temple and remove the rift blocking your way.
To find the quest, head to the left of Lizalfos Burrow, where you previously encountered Elder Silv. You'll see a cliff that can be scaled using either the Climber or Platboom Echo abilities. Once at the top, you'll meet a Goron standing between a lava flow and a small hot spring. Speak with the Goron to receive the "Flames of Fortune" quest. The task involves carrying a large flaming coal to Limme, a Goron located just outside the entrance to Goron City.
To transport the coal, use the Grab Ability (mapped to the X-button). However, there's a catch: the coal is on a timer and will burn out unless it stays in contact with lava. If the coal crumbles, you'll need to return to the starting point for a new one. Additionally, be cautious of enemies along the way, as Zelda will drop the coal if she takes any damage.
Clearing out enemies around Lizalfos Burrow before beginning the quest can help make your journey smoother.
If you look at the map, you'll notice that the route to Goron City is located southeast. Start by jumping from the cliff into the area around Lizalfos Burrow. From there, head right and jump down near the Smoothie Shop. Continue heading right to deliver the coal. You'll need to drag the coal over hotspots to keep it burning. You can also dip it in lava to prolong its life—just make sure not to leave it in for too long, or it'll sink.
Though optional, using the following Echoes can make your journey easier:
- Flying Tile
- Platboom
Flying Tiles allow you to move quickly across distances, while Platbooms can help you reach higher ledges. Be cautious when using Platbooms, though, as they may knock Zelda back upon summoning, causing her to drop the coal. If you prefer to play it safe, Flying Tiles are a more reliable option. You can acquire the Flying Tile from the Gerudo Sanctum dungeon or a cave in the far northwest of Gerudo Desert. The Platboom Echo is hidden behind the Gerudo Palace down a ladder. You’ll need a Crawler to scale the cliff, or you can stack objects like tables and crates to climb.
For an alternate method (refer to the pink path on the map), follow these steps:
1. With Zelda holding the coal (using the X-button), approach the platform’s edge near Lizalfos Burrow.
2. Summon a Flying Tile and ride it as far as possible. If you see the tile stopping above the lava, jump off early to land on a safe spot.
3. Keep the coal burning by passing it through lava patches if needed.
4. Continue east, reaching the shelf above Goron City. Be ready to battle Tellus monsters while you "refresh" the coal in nearby lava spots.
5. Jump down one last ledge to land just outside Goron City.
6. Deliver the coal to Limme, the Goron with a speech bubble over his head.
Upon completing the quest, Limme will reward you with two Might Crystals. While this might seem like a modest prize considering the challenge, these crystals are essential for upgrading Swordfighter mode. You'll need a total of 125 Might Crystals to unlock all the perks, but collecting all 150 available crystals in the game will unlock a special reward.
