Sega has unveiled how long it will take gamers to complete the Shadow-focused bonus campaign in Sonic X Shadow Generations. Players who pick up this highly anticipated title will not only enjoy a remastered version of the 2011 anniversary game but also embark on a unique side story that follows the enigmatic Shadow as he finds himself trapped in a mysterious void filled with adversaries from his past.
As the release date of October 25 approaches, Sonic Team is keeping fans informed about the exciting new Shadow content. Players can look forward to a variety of new Doom Powers and an expansive open-world hub reminiscent of the one seen in Sonic Frontiers.
Similar to Sonic and his Classic counterpart featured in the main Sonic Generations, Shadow's adventure will transport him back to iconic levels from previous titles, including Sonic Adventure 2, the 2005 spin-off Shadow the Hedgehog, and the notorious Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). Throughout his journey, Shadow will encounter familiar foes such as Black Doom, Neo Metal Sonic, and Mephiles the Dark.
In a recent interview with Famitsu during the Tokyo Game Show, producer Shun Nakamura shared insights about the new Shadow campaign’s duration. He indicated that it would likely take "about the same length" or perhaps "a little less" time to complete than the main storyline of Sonic Generations. On average, players can expect the original Sonic Generations to take around six hours for a straightforward playthrough, while completionist runs may extend beyond 21 hours.
Gamers can anticipate even more Shadow-themed content following the launch of Sonic X Shadow Generations. Those opting for the Digital Deluxe edition will receive a special bonus skin inspired by Shadow's appearance in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie, set to release on December 12. This iteration of Shadow will be voiced by Keanu Reeves, and the skin will come with a bonus level inspired by the latest Sonic 3 trailer, although it won’t be directly connected to the film.
Even without the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 DLC, it appears that Sonic X Shadow Generations will offer plenty for players to engage with, as the new content is expected to match the original game’s length. This could give Shadow Generations the feel of a brand-new standalone title rather than merely an add-on to an existing game, making it an exciting prospect for fans eager to dive in.
To build anticipation, Sega has begun releasing the Sonic X Shadow Generations: Dark Beginnings web series, featuring a collection of animated shorts that delve into Shadow’s tragic backstory, further enhancing the excitement leading up to the game's release.
