Fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender can finally rejoice, as a triple-A RPG is on the horizon, developed by Saber Interactive in collaboration with Paramount Game Studios.

Despite being a franchise that seems tailor-made for video game adaptations, Avatar: The Last Airbender has had a tumultuous history in gaming. Most titles released since the show's debut have been disappointing, lacking effort and quality. The notable exception remains Platinum's Legend of Korra from 2014, which managed to capture some of the magic of the Avatar world.

For years, fans have longed for a game that truly does justice to the beloved series, one that would be given the time and resources it deserves. Thankfully, this dream is finally set to become a reality with the announcement of the first triple-A game in the Avatar franchise.

The Long-Awaited Triple-A Game

Earlier today, IGN revealed that Paramount Game Studios and Saber Interactive are joining forces to develop the franchise's inaugural triple-A game. This new action RPG will be set within the Avatar Legends universe and is in partnership with Avatar Studios, the team established by the original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, to expand the Avatar lore since 2021.

While details remain sparse due to the game being in "early development," Paramount and Saber have dubbed it "the biggest video game in franchise history," a claim that seems justified given the poor quality of previous offerings. The untitled game is set to launch on PC and consoles, although a specific release date has yet to be announced.

While the game’s setting details are still under wraps, it has been confirmed that it will feature a completely new Avatar, never before seen in the series, and will take place "thousands of years in the past." Additionally, the Avatar will possess mastery over all four elements and will be accompanied by companions to aid in combat.
