Just in time for Halloween, Fallout: New Vegas is getting a chilling update courtesy of a dedicated modder who loves all things horror. The new mod brings a spooky twist to the beloved game by introducing slasher-inspired weapons and gear, allowing players to transform into their own horror icons. It also sets up encounters with Psycho enemies at various spots on the game's map, enhancing the eerie atmosphere.
Released back in October 2010 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, Fallout: New Vegas continues to enjoy a long-lasting appeal nearly 14 years later, partly thanks to its passionate modding community. The game remains one of the top five most modded titles on Nexus Mods, boasting an impressive 915 mod collections available for download, which keep the game fresh and engaging for both new and veteran players.
The newly released mod, named "Halloween Special - Wasteland Psychos and Serial Killers," was crafted by modder piromods. It adds a series of spine-chilling items to the game, including three unique pumpkin head masks and a blood-stained Serial Killer Hockey Mask reminiscent of the iconic Friday the 13th films. Players can also equip four new outfits that come with their own set of stat boosts, making their in-game persona even more formidable.
For fans of up-close combat, the mod introduces a Grim Reaper Scythe—a melee weapon with two special mods that can either reduce its weight or enhance its durability. Additionally, players can craft explosive pumpkin grenades that emit a toxic orange cloud, sending enemies into a berserk rage. While this effect takes inspiration from the Batman franchise, its execution has a vibe that would make the Green Goblin proud.
Along with the new gear, the Halloween mod also populates the Mojave Wasteland with terrifying Psycho or Serial Killer enemies at five distinct locations. Players can hunt these foes down at eerie spots like Matthews Animal Husbandry Farm, the Sunset Sarsaparilla Billboard near Snyder Prospector Camp, the highway close to Cannibal Johnson's Cave, the woods leading to Jacobstown, and an old building in Freeside where a gathering of monsters takes place.
This isn’t piromods' first venture into Fallout: New Vegas modifications. The modder has a prolific track record, with 121 different uploads on their Nexus Mods profile, more than 30 of which are dedicated to enhancing this classic game. Their contributions range from detailed retextures of companions like Cass and Rex to inventive new weapons like explosive spears and grenade launchers that fire unconventional ammunition like eight balls and baseballs.
Thanks to the efforts of passionate creators like piromods, Fallout: New Vegas remains a dynamic and evolving experience, blending nostalgia with fresh content that keeps players returning to the Mojave Wasteland year after year.
