A well-known leaker has hinted that the starting Pokémon for Pokémon Legends: Z-A may originate from the third, fifth, and eighth generations, though the specific types of these Pokémon have yet to be revealed. Following this intriguing tease, fans have been buzzing with speculation about which combinations of previous starters could make the cut.
Since its initial announcement during the February 2024 Pokémon Presents, details about Pokémon Legends: Z-A have been limited. The only confirmed information from The Pokémon Company is that the game is set to release sometime in 2025, but an exact launch date remains undisclosed.
Set in the Kalos region, during the period of urban redevelopment in Lumiose City—first introduced in 2013's Pokémon X and Y—this game promises to revisit the France-inspired landscape. Additionally, the beloved Mega Evolution battle mechanic is confirmed to be a key feature in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, heightening excitement among fans.
While fans await more updates about Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the reliable leaker Riddler Khu has shared another cryptic hint. In a recent Twitter post, Khu included the numbers three, five, and eight, which led fans to speculate that these numbers might correspond to the mainline generations from which the game’s starter Pokémon could be derived.
This suggests that the starters for Pokémon Legends: Z-A could potentially come from the Hoenn, Unova, and Galar regions. For comparison, the starters in Pokémon Legends: Arceus were Cyndaquil, Oshawott, and Rowlet, representing the second, fifth, and seventh generations, respectively. Each of these Pokémon also featured a Hisuian variant of their final evolution.
Fans have begun to share their theories on which starter Pokémon might be chosen for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, based on Riddler Khu's latest post. Since starters are typically arranged in the order of Grass, Fire, and Water in each region's Pokédex, some speculate that Treecko, Tepig, and Sobble could be the selections.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that all three Hoenn starters received Mega Evolution forms in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, which opens the door for the possibility of either new Mega Evolutions or regional variants appearing in the upcoming title.
While all rumors should be approached with caution, the anticipation surrounding Pokémon Legends: Z-A and the forthcoming successor to the Nintendo Switch is at an all-time high. Fans are eagerly waiting for Nintendo to reveal more about its 2025 lineup, and only time will tell what surprises await.
