This postcard, which appears to be a simple image of Lake Toluca, holds the key to unlocking this alternate conclusion. Here’s a breakdown of everything you need to do to get your hands on this crucial item.

Keep in mind that before attempting the 'Stillness' ending, you must have already achieved the 'In Water' ending in the game.

Locate the Chainsaw in New Game Plus Mode

In the New Game+ mode of Silent Hill 2 Remake, the Chainsaw is an essential melee weapon you'll need to acquire. Even if you aren’t particularly interested in using it, the Chainsaw is vital for progressing toward the 'Stillness' ending.

You can find the Chainsaw embedded in a log just outside the Silent Hill Ranch when playing in New Game+ mode. It’s especially important to grab it because James doesn’t initially have access to any melee weapons until he reaches the Eastern South Vale area of Silent Hill. The Chainsaw will be your tool to break into a car and retrieve an important item.

Retrieve the Key of Sorrow

With the Chainsaw in hand, your next task is to find a green car and use the Chainsaw to shatter its windows. Inside this car, you’ll discover the Key of Sorrow, a crucial item for unlocking the 'Stillness' ending.

The green car can be found right after you pass the Silent Hill Ranch (its location is conveniently marked on your map). As you make your way toward the town, take a moment to explore the blocked tunnel—the same area where you first encounter the lying figure in the original game. Pass through the chain-linked gate into the tunnel, and upon exiting, look to your left to spot the green car.

Break the windows of the vehicle with the Chainsaw until you receive a prompt to pick up the Key of Sorrow. Once you have the key, continue playing the game as usual until you reach the Otherworld version of the Lakeview Hotel.

For the final step in unlocking the 'Stillness' ending, you’ll need to retrieve the Toluca Postcard from the Otherworld version of the Lakeview Hotel. Once you’ve made your way through the eerie locations of Silent Hill 2 and arrived at the Otherworld Lakeview Hotel, head to the Manager's office on the first floor.

Inside the office, look for a safe tucked away in the corner next to a damaged desk. Use the Key of Sorrow to interact with the safe, then enter the combination code 314 to unlock it. If you notice a note near the safe hinting at the number 312, consider it a clue to the correct code.

Opening the safe will reward you with the Toluca Postcard. All that’s left to do now is inspect the postcard in your inventory and finish the game as you normally would. After the climactic final boss fight, you'll unlock the 'Stillness' ending in Silent Hill 2 Remake.
