However, Sonic X Shadow Generations will offer more than just a fresh coat of paint. The game will include a new bonus campaign, titled "Shadow Generations," that will center around Sonic's famous arch-rival, Shadow the Hedgehog. This additional content will take players on a journey through some of Shadow's most infamous moments in the Sonic franchise, allowing them to re-experience pivotal events such as the battle against the Biolizard from the climax of Sonic Adventure 2, navigate the ruined Space Colony Ark that is integral to Shadow's troubled backstory, and even confront the sinister Black Doom from the 2005 Shadow the Hedgehog spin-off.

According to Iizuka, the Time Eater, the primary villain and final boss of Sonic Generations, will be responsible for creating the mysterious White Space that Shadow finds himself trapped within, which appears to resemble the open-world hub introduced in 2022's Sonic Frontiers, as showcased in past Sonic X Shadow Generations gameplay trailers, thus weaving the new Shadow-centric content seamlessly into the existing Sonic Generations storyline.
