Fortnite is set to introduce an exciting new collaboration with Tesla, which will bring the iconic Cybertruck into the game as a drivable car skin. The Cybertruck skin will be made available for purchase in Fortnite's item shop starting tomorrow, July 23, allowing players to take the futuristic vehicle for a spin on the battle royale map.
Fortnite will add a driveable Tesla Cybertruck to the game tomorrow, July 23. This comes after a teaser image was released on the Fortnite Twitter account on July 21, showing off some tread marks and a piece of the Cybertruck logo. Tesla is no stranger to the video game world, as its cars have had ways to play games with the touchpad on their dashboards for some time.
Fortnite has taken part in several collaborations lately, the most recent being a Pirates of the Caribbean collab added to the game on July 19. Other crossovers hitting the popular title this year have included everything from Marvel and Fallout to the rock band Metallica. Epic Games has collaborated with real-world car companies in the past, bringing the Nissan Z, Lamborghini Huracán STO, and McLaren 765LT into the digital world. This next release marks the first time Tesla has collaborated with Fortnite.
On July 22, Fortnite dropped a trailer on its official Twitter account showcasing a Cybertruck pulling a battle bus, tank, and pickup truck. Driving the Cybertruck was none other than the fan-favorite Fortnite character, Fishstick. Tesla first integrated Steam into its cars back in 2022, so a collaboration with a game as popular as Fortnite isn't too shocking--though, how fans will respond to the vehicle's inclusion is unclear.
Tesla has been leaning heavily into marketing its trucks, especially after announcing a factory in Texas exclusively for Cybertrucks back in 2020. There have been several recent commercials and press events showcasing the capabilities of the Cybertruck, though the model has been met with criticism by many. Some customers argue that the Cybertruck's capabilities are on par with other trucks on the market, with more detractors making fun of its odd design.
Tesla cars are also known for their self-driving capabilities, but the technology isn't perfect. In 2022, a Twitch stream showed a Tesla almost causing an accident after its touchpad froze up during its full self-driving mode. Granted, that was during the feature's beta, but it goes to show that drivers must still be attentive to the road while using the feature.
Fortnite continues to make major strides in its collaborations, with Pirates of the Caribbean and Metallica being the heaviest hitters so far this season. A concert experience for Metallica was showcased in Fortnite recently, with the band members being a part of this season's Festival Pass for Fortnite Festival. Pirates of the Caribbean received its own Event Pass during its collaboration, along with several skins, including Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones. Limited-time items can also be found within the Battle Royale modes for Fortnite, including a powerful Ship In a Bottle mythic item that summons a ghostly pirate ship for players to ride. The Cybertruck is the latest collaboration and will be released in the item shop tomorrow, July 23, as a car skin.
