The Diablo 4 team has recently given players a glimpse into what to expect from the upcoming Season 6, set to debut with the highly anticipated Vessel of Hatred expansion on October 8. This revelation follows the launch of Season 5 on August 6, which introduced the Infernal Hordes activity. In this mode, players battle through waves of formidable enemies to collect Burning Aethers, which can be exchanged for unique class-specific items.
The Vessel of Hatred expansion promises to be a landmark update for Diablo 4, introducing a host of new features and content. Players can look forward to the Masterworking crafting system, fresh monsters, additional dungeons, and expanded storylines. A major addition is the introduction of mercenaries, new companions that offer customizable playstyles. The expansion will also debut a new class, Spiritborn, allowing players to harness the power of a Spirit Guardian and explore new abilities.
In an August 24 interview at Gamescom 2024, Wowhead and Diablo 4 content creator Jessirocks spoke with Diablo 4’s Systems Designer Aislyn Hall and Game Director Brent Gibson. They provided further insights into the upcoming season, highlighting the inclusion of new "bespoke mechanics and content" tailored specifically for Season 6, alongside the significant changes and features introduced in Vessel of Hatred.
One notable change is the overhaul of the Paragon system. Hall explained that the redesign aims to enhance player choice and depth while avoiding unnecessary complexity. Gibson added that there are no plans to implement an infinite Paragon system like in Diablo 3. Instead, the focus will be on achievable goals to ensure the progression remains engaging rather than feeling like a chore. Additionally, a level squish is rumored to reduce the level cap from 100 to 60, making Paragon Boards available at level 60 and adjusting armor listing requirements accordingly.
The interview also touched on the highly requested loot filter feature. Gibson mentioned that an Armory, a top community request, is a priority for the development team. The team is committed to addressing quality-of-life improvements, and players can expect updates each season that will enhance their overall experience.
