Nintendo has announced that Pauline, a beloved character from the Super Mario series, will be a playable character in the highly anticipated Super Mario Party Jamboree. Slated for release on October 17, 2024, this installment promises to be one of the most expansive and ambitious entries in the Mario Party franchise, boasting an impressive lineup of characters and minigames.
Since its initial reveal during the June 2024 Nintendo Direct, details about Super Mario Party Jamboree have been closely guarded. The debut trailer showcased a vast array of selectable characters, including classic favorites like Mario, Peach, Rosalina, Wario, and Waluigi, alongside enemies such as Goomba, Spike, Boo, Ninji, and Monty Mole—all of whom will be playable. Despite this extensive roster shown in the trailer, Nintendo has been keeping a few surprises under wraps, including the addition of Pauline.
As the October release approaches, Nintendo has launched a dedicated website for Super Mario Party Jamboree, offering insights into the game's features, new modes, and returning minigames. Pauline makes several appearances in the promotional screenshots, highlighting her involvement in various minigames. Known for her popularity and high demand among fans, Pauline’s inclusion marks her debut as a playable character in the Mario Party series.
Pauline originally appeared in the classic Donkey Kong arcade game as Mario's first love interest before Princess Peach took center stage. Although she made occasional appearances in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong spin-offs, it was in 2017’s Super Mario Odyssey that she made a significant comeback. In Odyssey, Pauline plays a key role as the mayor of New Donk City and assists Mario in rescuing Peach from Bowser. Since then, she has become a notable figure in the franchise, appearing in spin-offs like Mario Tennis Aces and Mario Strikers Battle League, and even making a cameo in the Super Mario Bros. Movie as the mayor of Brooklyn.
In Super Mario Party Jamboree, Pauline will sport her classic look from the Mario vs. Donkey Kong games rather than her big band dress or her mayoral suit from Super Mario Odyssey. Her addition to the roster follows the introduction of Ninji, making her the second new character revealed for the game.
With its expanding roster and exciting new features, Super Mario Party Jamboree is set to offer fans an even more engaging and dynamic party experience.
