Techland, the studio behind the popular Dying Light series, appears to have even more on its plate than previously thought. A new job posting has revealed that Techland is working on yet another unannounced game in addition to their existing projects. At Gamescom Opening Night Live last month, Techland introduced Dying Light: The Beast, a new, smaller-scale standalone title featuring Kyle Crane from the original game. Initially conceived as DLC for Dying Light 2, it is now anticipated to release in 2025.
But Dying Light: The Beast isn’t the only project in the works at Techland. Shortly after the 2022 launch of Dying Light 2, the studio unveiled plans for an open-world fantasy action RPG, marking a significant departure from their usual genre. Although details remain sparse, it’s known that key developers on this project have experience working with CD Projekt Red on the recent Witcher games and Cyberpunk 2077. The team also includes talent from Ubisoft, Arkane Lyon, and Guerrilla Games. Since the initial announcement, there have been no further updates on this fantasy RPG.
Now, a new job listing has surfaced, suggesting that Techland is busy with yet another project alongside Dying Light: The Beast, the fantasy RPG, and ongoing support for Dying Light 2. According to Tech4Gamers, the listing for an Unreal Engine 5 Level Artist indicates that the role is related to a new IP "in addition to Dying Light and the fantasy game." Another listing for a UE5 AI Programmer seeks candidates with experience in first-person perspective (FPP) and multiplayer games.
The reference to multiplayer in the AI Programmer listing raises questions about whether Techland's new IP will feature cooperative or competitive gameplay. Given the studio’s expertise with co-op in the Dying Light series, this new project could explore a fresh PvP experience. The mention of FPP aligns with Techland’s successful track record with first-person titles.
The studio's renowned first-person parkour mechanics could potentially make their way into this new IP, especially as other AAA studios, like EA with Mirror’s Edge, have not focused heavily on this niche.
As Techland focuses on completing Dying Light: The Beast, it might be some time before more information about their new IP becomes available. However, with over two years since the fantasy RPG’s announcement, it’s plausible that it could be closer to reveal. Fans should stay tuned to Techland’s social media channels for updates on all three projects, including the latest news on Dying Light 2.
