As Honkai: Star Rail continues expanding its roster of characters, the game is introducing innovative ways for players to acquire their favorite characters and Light Cones, especially the coveted limited 5-star units. Rerun banners have been a staple in the game, providing more chances to snag previously released characters while complementing new additions. Now, Honkai: Star Rail has unveiled a new banner format that could significantly reshape the player experience.
In the upcoming Version 2.5, Honkai: Star Rail will debut a groundbreaking rerun banner system, allowing players to choose one of three featured 5-star characters. Set to roll out in the first phase of the update, this banner will feature Kafka, Black Swan, and Robin, along with their signature Light Cones. Additionally, the banner will introduce Feixiao, a new 5-star character specializing in The Hunt, making this an exciting opportunity for players to enhance their teams.
The first phase of Honkai: Star Rail Version 2.5 will offer players the chance to choose between three powerful 5-star characters: Kafka (Lightning, Nihility), Black Swan (Wind, Nihility), and Robin (Physical, Harmony). While character selectors are not new to Honkai: Star Rail or other HoYoverse games, they are typically reserved for free 4-star characters during limited-time events. In contrast, this new system marks the first time players can select a 5-star unit from a rerun banner, giving them more control over their pulls and reducing the wait for desired characters to return.
This banner format not only gives players more options but also enhances the overall experience by allowing multiple 5-star characters to rerun simultaneously. This change could shorten the gap between rerun banners, providing fans more opportunities to pull for their favorite 5-star units without a long wait.
Moreover, rerun banners have always been lucrative for Honkai: Star Rail, as gacha players often invest heavily to obtain their preferred 5-stars. With the new format, collectors and dedicated players can now focus their spending on the characters they value most, especially if they’re aiming to gather Eidolons and strengthen their existing teams. If this system proves successful, it could also set a precedent for other HoYoverse games, such as the upcoming Zenless Zone Zero.
While the new rerun banner system is an exciting addition, it’s currently a limited-time feature. HoYoverse has confirmed that the Version 2.5 banner is a special event, with the second phase of the update featuring only Topaz and Numby as the rerun character. It remains unclear whether the triple 5-star banner will return in future updates, though it would make sense for HoYoverse to consider bringing it back in Version 2.6, especially since the only new 5-star character in that update is Rappa.
It’s possible that HoYoverse is testing the waters with this new format. If it resonates with players, it could become a more permanent fixture in future versions of Honkai: Star Rail. However, the game may need to expand its pool of 5-star characters before fully committing to this rerun banner system. In the meantime, the developer is likely concentrating on the game’s next major update, which will introduce the fourth planet and advance the overarching storyline in Version 3.0.
This new banner format, even if temporary, could pave the way for a more dynamic and exciting future for Honkai: Star Rail—one that gives players greater flexibility and more reasons to stay engaged with the game.
