Iconic Chrono Trigger composer Yasunori Mitsuda is set to return as a guest composer for the DLC of the acclaimed 2023 RPG, Sea of Stars. Released in August 2023, Sea of Stars has been lauded as one of the year's top RPGs, capturing the nostalgic essence of classic 16-bit RPGs from Square Enix, including Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG. Mitsuda, known for his work on Chrono Trigger, has contributed significantly to the game's original soundtrack alongside Eric W. Brown, composing ten memorable tracks. He will now lend his talents once more for the DLC titled "Throes of the Watchmaker."

Mitsuda's involvement was confirmed through an announcement on his company's official website. While specifics about his contributions to the DLC are yet to be disclosed, his past work with Sabotage, the developers behind Sea of Stars, suggests he will compose several new tracks. The DLC was first revealed by Sabotage in September, following the game's launch. Although details on the release date and progress have been sparse, an update earlier in August indicated that the DLC is scheduled for a Spring 2025 release.

What to Expect from "Throes of the Watchmaker"

The "Throes of the Watchmaker" DLC promises to enrich the Sea of Stars experience by introducing a carnival-themed clockwork area where players will search for a unique pocket watch. This expansion will also feature a mix of returning and new characters, including nefarious clones and a fresh party member known as The Artificer. Fans are eager to see how this new content will delve deeper into the role of the Watchmaker within the game’s narrative.

In addition to the DLC, Sabotage is working on a three-player co-op mode, Single Player+, allowing players to control individual party members while exploring the game’s map, reminiscent of Square Enix's Secret of Mana. Details about this mode are still under wraps, but it remains a highly anticipated feature.

Stay tuned for more updates as Sea of Stars continues to expand its world and story.
