Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 7 has introduced a significant challenge for players tackling Bulette in Honour Mode, making the boss fight nearly insurmountable for many. The latest update, released to PC players on September 5, has notably intensified the game's difficulty, particularly in the game's hardcore Honour Mode. While Larian Studios intentionally enhanced Bulette’s difficulty as part of this update, there are growing concerns about whether this change will be adjusted in future patches.
The latest update to Baldur's Gate 3 has made sweeping changes, including adding new Legendary Actions to over half a dozen bosses, thereby ramping up the combat difficulty. Bulette, a formidable boss found in the Underdark during Act 1, has received a particularly tough overhaul in Honour Mode.
Patch 7 introduces two major changes to Bulette that have left players struggling. The first is the new Legendary Action called Shredding Scales, a powerful slashing AoE attack that can cause Bleed and requires a Dexterity Save of 14 to avoid. This makes it quite challenging for players who are still at lower levels in Act 1.
More problematic is the new condition known as Diamond Scales. This feature grants Bulette 100 temporary hit points and renders it immune to all attacks that deal fewer than 15 damage points. This immunity makes many of the attacks players might rely on ineffective. Additionally, Diamond Scales prevent Bulette from being pushed or shoved off a cliff, and it allows the boss to use Shredding Scales immediately after being hit each round.
Given that Bulette was already one of the toughest bosses in Act 1, these updates make the fight even more grueling. Players approaching this boss around level 5, which is typical when reaching the Underdark, might find the encounter especially challenging. To manage this fight, players should space their party members out and consider using Bulette’s Territorial trait to their advantage.
By luring Bulette into combat with other Monstrosity-classified creatures in the Underdark, such as the Beholder—which Bulette will prioritize attacking—players can create opportunities to weaken the boss. This strategy is particularly effective if the party can continually revive these Monstrosities through necromancy.
For those who find the enhanced Bulette too formidable but are reluctant to skip the fight, there are options available. Players can choose to delay the confrontation or revert to the previous Patch 6. Larian Studios has provided an easy way to roll back to the earlier version, allowing players to bypass the recent buffs if needed.
With these changes, Bulette has certainly become one of the most daunting challenges in Baldur's Gate 3, and players will need to adapt their strategies or wait for potential adjustments to fully enjoy this new update.
