Sony has officially announced that the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 Pro will be launching on November 7, priced at a jaw-dropping $699.99. For years, rumors have circulated about a Pro version of the PS5, with many speculating that Sony would follow the path of the PS4 Pro’s success from the previous generation.
Insiders have long hinted that the release of a PS5 Pro was inevitable, and now Sony has confirmed those rumors. During a presentation led by Mark Cerny, the architect behind the PlayStation 5, Sony revealed all the key details about its upcoming powerhouse console.
Set to launch as a digital-only device, the PS5 Pro nearly doubles the power of the current PS5. One of its biggest selling points is that players will no longer have to choose between high resolution and smooth performance. The PS5 Pro can run games at 60 frames per second while maintaining the high visual fidelity expected from Graphics mode.
This leap is made possible by a 45% boost in GPU rendering speeds, advanced ray tracing that is up to three times faster than the standard PS5, and the introduction of AI-driven upscaling technology through PlayStation's new Spectral Super Resolution feature. Pre-orders for the PS5 Pro begin on September 26 via PlayStation Direct and select retailers. Players will also have the option to purchase an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, though pricing for this add-on hasn’t been disclosed yet.
PS5 Pro: Release Date and Pricing Details
- Release Date: November 7
- Price: $699.99
The PS5 Pro won’t feature exclusive games, but it promises significant performance boosts for existing titles. Backward-compatible games will benefit from improved performance, while modern releases will receive specific PS5 Pro optimizations. Many of Sony’s first-party titles will receive these enhancements, including standout games like Demon’s Souls Remake, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, all of which were showcased during the presentation.
Games Receiving PS5 Pro Enhancements
- Alan Wake 2
- Assassin's Creed Shadows
- Demon's Souls
- Dragon's Dogma 2
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
- Gran Turismo 7
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- The Crew Motorfest
- The First Descendant
- The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered
The PS5 Pro will deliver a significant power boost compared to the current PS5 models, giving gamers the ultimate experience in terms of graphics and performance. However, this comes with a hefty price tag. At $699.99, the PS5 Pro will be the most expensive PlayStation console to date. Whether gamers are willing to invest in this higher-end version, despite running the same games as the base PS5, remains to be seen.
