Get ready for a blast from the past as Darksiders 2, the beloved cult classic, is gearing up for a return on current-generation consoles. Originally launched in 2012 for seventh-generation systems, Darksiders 2 continued the saga begun by 2010's Darksiders. Set against a backdrop of biblical apocalypse, players assume the role of Death, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, on a quest to exonerate his brother War, who is wrongly accused of annihilating humanity. To clear his brother's name, Death must traverse the mortal realm on his steed, Despair, engage in intense hack-and-slash battles, and solve gothic puzzles to uncover the truth.
Though Darksiders 2 received generally favorable reviews, it didn't quite meet the sales expectations set by publisher THQ. Nevertheless, the game's dark visual style and action-packed Zelda-inspired gameplay left a lasting impression on many fans. In 2015, an updated version known as Darksiders 2: Deathfinitive Edition was released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, boasting enhanced graphics, all the original game's downloadable content (DLC), and gameplay balance tweaks. This edition was later made available on Nintendo Switch in 2019 and Google Stadia in 2021.
Exciting news for fans: Darksiders 2: Deathfinitive Edition is set to make its debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on October 15, 2024, priced at $29.99. THQ Nordic and developer Gunfire Games have announced this release with a compelling trailer showcasing Death in action. The trailer highlights Death wielding his twin scythes, battling colossal tentacled foes on fiery steeds, scaling walls, and unleashing devastating elemental attacks and brutal finishing moves.
The updated edition will feature several enhancements, including faster load times thanks to ultra-fast SSDs, stunning 4K visuals, and immersive haptic feedback with the PS5's DualSense controller. For those who already own Darksiders 2: Deathfinitive Edition on PS4 or Xbox One, a free upgrade to the respective current-gen version will be available. Additionally, players who pre-order the game before October 14 can enjoy a 50 percent discount.
In related news, THQ Nordic recently hinted at a new Darksiders installment. However, they clarified that this announcement is separate from the re-release of Darksiders 2. While fans eagerly await news about the next chapter in the series, they can look forward to revisiting Death's epic journey through the apocalypse with enhanced graphics and new features next month.
