How to Locate Larry Chiang

To face Larry, you must first complete the case titled "Jessie's Discovery." In this segment, Jessie and Frank review CCTV footage revealing a deranged butcher dragging what seems to be Carlito Keyes into the mall's Meat Processing Area. After this, the case "The Butcher" will unlock, prompting you to navigate the Maintenance Tunnels to reach the Meat Processing Area.

This case is essential and unfolds on the third day of the outbreak, marking it as the second-to-last case in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Once you arrive at the Meat Processing Area, a cutscene will trigger, leading directly into your battle with Larry!

Strategies to Defeat Larry Chiang

Before entering the Meat Processing Area, it’s crucial to prepare your inventory to make the encounter as manageable as possible. Gather a Katana and a Submachine Gun from Paradise Plaza, along with three or four Orange Juices to maintain your health.

You probably won’t need more than this, as the fight isn’t overly challenging, but if you’d like an extra Submachine Gun, you can find another in the fountain at Al Fresca Plaza. With this gear in hand, head to the Meat Processing Area!

Understanding Larry Chiang’s Attacks

Larry is a formidable Psychopath with a variety of moves. He typically opens the fight with a Charging Attack, where he lowers his shoulders and rushes forward to deliver a brutal slash with his Meat Cleaver. When you see him drop his shoulder, roll away at the right moment to dodge the attack.

Position yourself near the long metal table on the left side of the room. Larry will start throwing Throwing Knives at you; if you stand at the opposite end of the table, you’ll avoid his projectiles and can freely shoot at him while he struggles to hit you. Utilize this table strategically throughout the fight—it’s a game changer!

After a while, Larry will approach the rows of carcasses hanging from meat hooks and attempt to throw one at you. When you notice him reaching for a carcass, switch to your Katana and deliver several slashes. As he throws the carcass, evade to the left or right, then strike him one or two more times.

Repeat these tactics until you defeat Larry. He has a substantial health pool, so while it may take some effort, using the table effectively will help you chip away at his health quickly!

In the original Dead Rising, Larry would sometimes eat a Can of Meat to regain health, particularly when his HP dropped below half. While this didn’t happen in our encounter, it’s still a possibility, so stay vigilant.

Rewards for Defeating Larry Chiang

Once you defeat Larry, he will drop his Meat Cleaver, which will permanently appear in the Meat Processing Area from that point on. Additionally, you will receive Carlito's Locket, which is essential for progressing in the main story.

You’ll likely have some free time before needing to return to Isabella, so take this opportunity to rescue Survivors or confront any remaining Psychopaths from the third day of the outbreak, provided they are still available.

Defeating Larry Chiang contributes to the Punisher Achievement/Trophy in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, which requires players to defeat ten different Psychopaths during the 72-Hour Mode. If you’re aiming for this achievement, make sure to tackle the other Psychopaths as well!
