In an exciting development for Pokémon GO players, Shadow Galarian Weezing has been added to the evolution pool as part of the Legendary Heroes event, running until October 1. This event aims to draw players back to the game, with some returning specifically to obtain this new Shadow Pokémon.
Over the years, Pokémon GO has expanded its roster to include Pokémon from every generation, offering players a chance to encounter new faces each time they log in. The game now features Pokémon from Generations 1 through 9, though some Pokémon from Generations 6 and beyond are still absent.
In addition to standard Pokémon, players can also find regional variants from Alola, Galar, Hisui, and Paldea. These variants encourage players to collect Pokémon Candies to unlock each region’s unique forms alongside their standard versions. A recent event has unveiled the opportunity to evolve Shadow Koffing into Shadow Galarian Weezing for the first time.
Reddit user _Crotha is among many players sharing their success stories of evolving a Shadow Koffing into Shadow Galarian Weezing. While several features and Pokémon for the Legendary Heroes event were confirmed in advance, the inclusion of Shadow Galarian Weezing came as a surprise.
To evolve Koffing into Galarian Weezing, players will need 50 Pokémon Candies, just like the standard evolution from Koffing to Weezing. Those who don’t already possess a Shadow Koffing can find one during the Legendary Heroes event, available in 1-Star Shadow Raids alongside Galarian Ponyta, Darumaka, Goomy, and Jangmo.
As the CP of Koffing may vary, players aiming to defend Gyms with Galarian Weezing should consider evolving their highest-level Koffing. Evolving a Shadow Koffing into Galarian Weezing not only adds a new Shadow Pokémon to their collection but also changes its type. While a standard Weezing is solely a Poison-type, Galarian Weezing boasts a dual typing of Poison and Fairy.
The Fairy typing enhances its attack options, negates its vulnerability to Poison, and grants immunity to many Dragon-type moves. However, players will need to be mindful of the new weaknesses to Ground, Steel, and Psychic types, which could complicate battles against other Pokémon depending on their typings.
Given that Shadow Galarian Weezing was not teased prior to the event, there’s a possibility that Niantic might remove it in a future hotfix. With Niantic frequently updating Pokémon GO, this may not be the last opportunity for players to evolve their Shadow Koffing into Galarian Weezing.
