In Black Myth: Wukong Chapter 2, players will encounter a boar named the Yellow-Robed Squire, who will send them on a side quest to locate the "Realm of Gold." Successfully completing this quest unlocks the hidden Kingdom of Sahali, a mysterious area filled with secrets—including a challenging boss fight against the giant scarab Yaoguai, Fuban.
While Fuban is an optional boss, defeating him is worth the effort. Taking him down grants you valuable rewards, including his Vessel and Horn, which are useful for your journey ahead. Here’s everything you need to know to defeat Fuban.
1. Prepare for Battle
Don't let Fuban's size intimidate you. Although he's a secret boss, this battle is not as difficult as some of the others in Chapter 2. However, it's still crucial to stock up on healing items and consider upgrading your Gourd for better survivability.
2. The First Phase: Avoiding Fuban's Flop Attack
At the start of the battle, Fuban will disappear underground. When he resurfaces, he'll leap into the air and attempt to crush you with a powerful flop attack. Timing your dodge to avoid this move is essential, as it deals significant damage. After landing, Fuban will remain relatively stationary for a short while, allowing you to launch some attacks.
Focus on targeting his claws using the Thrust Stance, which lets you perform long-range heavy attacks. Although Fuban doesn’t move much during this phase, he will shake his head violently, so be prepared to dodge any slams or surprise attacks he throws at you.
3. The Second Phase: Navigating Fuban’s Underground Assault
Once you've depleted around a third of his health, Fuban will retreat underground and begin swimming through the sand. Keep a close eye on him and track his movements, as he will attack from beneath the sand using his horn. Dodge these attacks to avoid taking damage and use the Pillar Stance to rise above the sand, protecting yourself from any hits.
4. Entering the Final Phase: Stun Fuban with Help from the Yellow Wind Sage
Eventually, Fuban will jump out of the sand again and start launching leap attacks. Fortunately, the Yellow Wind Sage will intervene at this stage, stunning Fuban with powerful drum strikes. This will provide you with the perfect opportunity to climb onto Fuban's back and retrieve the Vessel.
As the Yellow Wind Sage fights alongside you, his wind-based attacks will knock Fuban to the ground, allowing you to deliver the final blows. With his help, you’ll be able to bring Fuban down for good.
Upon defeating Fuban, you’ll be rewarded with a substantial amount of XP and the following valuable items:
- Wind Tamer: This vessel grants you resistance to wind-based attacks and significantly reduces incoming damage, boosting your survivability in combat.
- Sky Piercing Horn: This rare crafting material is crucial for creating the Adept Spine-Shooting Fuban Staff, a powerful weapon that will aid you in future battles.
Taking on Fuban might be an optional challenge, but the rewards and experience you gain will make the fight well worth the effort.
