BioWare has officially confirmed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will come with a built-in photo mode, a first for the beloved RPG series. This exciting new feature has been revealed as part of the game's pre-release promotions, adding to the growing anticipation ahead of its launch on October 31.
For the first time in Dragon Age history, players will have access to a native photo mode, allowing them to capture stunning in-game moments. BioWare shared the news in a recent interview with IGN, detailing how The Veilguard's photo mode will function. The interface is divided into five tabs, each dedicated to a different category of adjustments, giving players creative control over their screenshots. Confirmed tools include sliders for focal length, aperture, and essential image settings like brightness, contrast, saturation, and bloom intensity.
While the photo mode camera will be able to move freely to find the perfect angle, its range will be limited to a certain radius around the player's party, following the standard approach of most modern photo modes. One of the standout features is a set of four visibility toggles, allowing players to hide or display the protagonist, companions, enemies, and NPCs in their shots. Players can also add dramatic vignette effects, adjusting the intensity to suit their artistic vision.
- Full free-roaming camera controls on three axes with tilt functionality
- Focal length slider for zoom adjustments
- Aperture slider to control depth of field
- Autofocus for easier shot composition
- Adjustable brightness, bloom, contrast, and saturation settings
- Vignetting options for added visual impact
- Visibility toggles to hide or reveal the protagonist, companions, enemies, and other NPCs
According to BioWare Director Corinne Busche, the addition of a photo mode in The Veilguard was partly inspired by the one included in Mass Effect Legendary Edition in 2021. BioWare Producer Brenon Holmes, who played a key role in advocating for this feature, was instrumental in adapting it for The Veilguard. Though the two games use different engines, it’s possible some elements of Mass Effect's photo mode, such as filters and a film grain slider, may also be incorporated.
As Dragon Age: The Veilguard prepares for its highly anticipated release, the addition of a robust photo mode will allow players to capture and share their favorite moments in the game's rich and immersive world.
