PictoXacobeo is an Android app that helps pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago communicate when speaking or writing is difficult. Designed for travelers with speech disorders, reading challenges or language barriers, the app lets users build messages by selecting pictograms that represent words and ideas. It covers practical Camino topics—hostels, restaurants, shops and churches—and supports the main languages used along the route, so a pilgrim can request accommodation, food, directions or basic assistance with confidence. Its clear interface and focus on accessibility make it a practical companion for the trail.

Development Team

PictoXacobeo was developed with support from the Tourism Agency of the Xunta de Galicia as part of the Xacobeo 2021 revitalization under the O Teu Xacobeo program. The pictograms come from the Government of Aragon and were designed by Sergio Palao for ARASAAC; these images are distributed under the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license.
